Motivated by the Empire 208 turntable from Charles, I took my late father-in-law's Rek O Kut K33 turntable out of storage.
After cleaning and lubricating the motor, I installed Lords rubber grommets from my parts bin. Using the belt from the Empire 208, the motor and platter spun smoothly at 33.3 rpm.
It deserves a decent plinth in spite of the corrosion.😊
In the real world things don't always go as planned...
A couple of small trees and hefty branches fell around our yard during rainstorms this past spring and summer. I used to manually cut fallen branches, but this time I was up against limbs over 8" in diameter.
I've been mowing the yard with a Ryobi 20" 40V with two battery packs and a regular charger since we moved into this house almost 10 years ago. A couple of years later, I lucked into four extra batteries + a heavy duty charger cheap at a flea market. We chose to stay with the Ryobi 40V ecosystem with this 12" chainsaw. This tool made it much easier to clean up.
I thought our grocery getter was all set for its annual inspection this coming November until a faint squeal started emanating from the front.
The front brake pads were worn out.
I ordered a set of front brake pads online for $30. Changing the pads was a breeze with the help of this video. Thanks, Gilbere! DIY saved us at least $300.
Due to the aforementioned distractions, I've been listening to monaural tunes to relax.

Ever since I assembled my first mono HiFi rig, it has become a refreshing source of music especially when I was still busy performing, teaching and studying scores. Now it's stress relief.😊
My buddy JP gave me a good deal on a few pairs of 807s. I added a 6.3V @ 3A filament transformer to my WE124-style PP6V6 mono amp, swapped the octals with 5-pin sockets + plate caps. So far, I prefer what I'm hearing from the 807s even at 6V6 operating points. After hearing Dave's WE124 mono blocks, I'm contemplating a stereo version.

The parts for my long-delayed stereo Western Electric 133A inspired amp are languishing on one side of the shop. I've been procrastinating because I'm enjoying the mono version a lot! Also, IME, laying and punching out a chassis is the most arduous task in constructing an amp.
To regain momentum, I knocked out a small chassis for an optimized choke input power supply to energize my 76 + Hashimoto HL20K6 line preamp. I gotta wire this up ASAP to clear up the work bench.

I've been running 807s for a while. I like 'em. One amp in triode and one amp in ultra-linear. I like the triode mode better. but its not completely fair as that amp has bigger opt. You're posts have had me think about switching the 807UL to a 6v6 triode amp.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your 807 experiments! Back in the early 90s, I had a chance to hear a PP807 Williamson amp with the Peerless S265-Q OPT. I thought that mono amp sounded better than the Heathkit W3 (TO300), W4 and W5 (16309/16548). Since prices for 5881/6L6G/KT66s went through the roof, I remembered the 807 and here we are. I haven't tried the 807 in SE triode mode yet, but I will.
